On page 86 of my book, The Fowlerville Chronicles, a reference is made to "Lime Green," the proprietor and landlord of the Commercial Hotel, which was located at the southwest corner of South Grand and West Grand River avenues. Mr. L.E. Green seemed to be well-liked and respected in the community, based on information I found in various papers in the Fowlerville Historical Collection, found in the village offices.
One such article in The Fowlerville Review brought this to light with, L.E. Green, the retiring landlord of the Commercial Hotel, has conducted the business very successfully for the past three years and has succeeded in making a considerable reputation for himself as a genial landlord.
Later in the year, L.E. Green and S.W. Gates have rented the Horton house, at Mason, and will take possession Nov. 1. Mr. Green possesses all the qualifications for a popular and successful host and we wish the new firm success, although we are sorry that circumstances takes them from our midst.
Interestingly enough, at the end of the year, Owing to some extraordinary demands made by the owner of the hotel at Mason after the bargain was completed, Messrs. Green and Gates did not take possession, as was stated they would, in a previous issue of this paper.
So Mr. Green came back to Fowlerville, with L.E. Green has rented the room recently occupied as a millinery store, in the Beebe block, and will open a restaurant, candy and cigar store the first of the week.
Then, in 1895, L.E. Green has purchased the restaurant business at Owosso and will remove to that city in a few days. And then, Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Green left on Wednesday for Owosso, where he will engage in the restaurant business. Mr. and Mrs. P. Gordon accompanied them. We regret that circumstances take them from our midst but their many friends will wish them abundant prosperity.
