Squint Shot 070109
This is a squint shot of the Purple Loosestrife, a plant threatening to choke off Michigan wetlands with its invasive growth. It is not native to Michigan, nor the United States, but is believed to have come from Europe in the late 1800s on the outside of a ship. There is currently active research and experimentation being conducted to eliminate this weed through two types of beetles that feast on the leaves and growing tips of this plant. Michigan State University seems to be taking the most active role in trying to eliminate this weed. Go State!
