Squint Shot 030111

We have moved from the old Nellie Glenn house on East Grand River and South Collins Street that still exists, to one that has now been demolished. The house and office at the northeast corner of North Second Street and East Grand River no longer exists -- it was removed in December, 2010.

In the mid to late 1800s of Fowlerville, the Spencer House, originally called the Spencer Exchange, was located at this corner until about 1915. A 1922 surveyor's map shows the house that eventually replaced it at the corner (lower left hand corner), minus the office that was added on years later.

Before the slated demolition, I was given the opportunity to wander through the house. After coming in through a side door, the first thing that caught my eye was old wallpaper and trim that may have been equally as old. The floor was scattered with debris, including heavy "billie-club"-like items -- upon closer inspection, these were weights that had been taken out of the windows. I was allowed to retrieve a couple of these weights and they will be included in the historical collection at the village office. Pictures will follow.
